DISCIPLE_μαθητής \\ Week 2 \\ October 25, 2026

Travis argues that the best way to become an exceptional parent is not to rely on willpower, control, or endless self-improvement, but to take daily discipleship seriously. Discipleship means being formed by a Father who deeply delights in His children, and that experience gradually transforms parents from the inside out. As we discover God's heart of love for us, our own hearts become filled with delight for our children, and our words naturally begin to flow from that overflow rather than from fear, frustration, or control.

He demonstrates this principle through Jesus' teaching that the mouth speaks from what fills the heart, through Peter's attempt to walk on water, and through Jesus' command to leave the offering and reconcile with someone we have wronged. In each story, failure is not final: Jesus meets Peter with compassion, stays on his side, and helps him continue. Likewise, parents should not abandon children when they fail; they should help, restore, and pursue them with joy. When parents fail, they should go to their children, own their mistakes, and repent rather than defend themselves. The central message is that transformation comes through a life formed by Jesus, not through direct effort alone.
